A Game of Chess

In a game of chess, being in 'check' often feels like an impending checkmate. Similarly, as Christians facing 'check' situations, we might encounter bleakness, discouragement, belittlement, or a sense of impending defeat. This brings us to the comforting words of Romans 8:1: "therefore there is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus." The story of Esther illustrates this journey from rags to riches and from condemnation to exaltation. We observe similar stories in the lives of Job, Joseph, Moses, Hannah, Ruth, Naomi, King David, Daniel, and Mary, the mother of Jesus. God consistently rescues His people at the brink of destruction. God does not change the way he works, He always fulfills His promises in miraculous ways.
