March 2023 Vision Trip Video
From March 10-20, 2023, Pastor Jared and Pastor Leo (Petra Colombia) and four of their sons, who are each training for full time ministry, are headed to Argentina and Uruguay on a Vision trip. Please watch the short video above to learn more about the spiritual need in Buenos Aires, Argentina and Montevideo, Uruguay. These are two of the cities where we are praying for future Christ-centered church plants through Petra International as the Gospel is desperately needed in both locations.
Buenos Aires, Argentina
Buenos Aires, Argentina is one of the world’s largest urban areas, with a population of 15.5 million, but the gospel has not reached the majority who live there. It also has one of the world’s largest Jewish communities that is largely unreached with the truth of Christ, the cultured upper class has been mostly closed off to the gospel, and there are over 500,000 slum dwellers, homeless and street kids.
Over half of the 1.2 million university students in Argentina reside in Buenos Aires, and there is very little witness among them. Argentina has a population of over 45 million, with less than 10 percent of the population identifying as evangelical Christians. A Christ-centered church is needed in the city, along with leadership training to ensure that the Word of God is taught accurately and new believers can be discipled to maturity in the faith.

Montevideo, Uruguay
Montevideo is the capital of Uruguay, a country of 3.5 million, and that is largely considered to be the most secular in South America. The rates of depression, suicide, abortion, and divorce are some of the highest on the continent. Less than two percent of the population attend Catholic mass, while under six percent identify as evangelical Christians. There are also a large number of people who practice spiritism within the country. True Bible preaching and discipleship is needed, as well as many more workers for the harvest field. A Christ-centered church is needed in the city for the Holy Spirit to expose religious deceptions and defeat the power of darkness over the land.
Santiago, Chile
Santiago is the capitol and largest city to Chile with a population of 6.9 million people. Catholicism was introduced in the country in the 16th century by Spanish colonists and Protestantism in the 19th century by German Lutheran immigrants, but there is a large need for sound doctrine and true Christ-centered churches, as there are very few born again believers. As the country became a democracy after years under the oppressive Pinochet’s military dictatorship, Chile has become known as one of the most progressive countries in South America, but also one that is in dire need of the truth of the gospel.
Porto Alegre, Brazil
Porto Alegre, Brazil is the capital and largest city of the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul in southern Brazil, with a population of 1.5 million. It is on a delta resulting from the junction of five rivers. It is one of the wealthiest cities in Latin America and one of the most diverse, with immigrants from Portugal, Russia, Germany, Italy, Spain, Ukraine and Poland. There are significant Arab and Jewish populations in the city, as well as many who follow Afro-Brazilian spiritism. The city has had a growing wave of violence in recent years, become one of the top 50 world’s most violent cities in 2017. About 10 percent of the population identifies as evangelical, but true born again believers is far less percentage. A Christ-centered church is needed in this city to reach many with the hope of Jesus Christ.
